Duane Buxton Creston

Duane R. Buxton, 84, of Creston died Dec. 17, 2012, at Greater Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 25 and 34. The Rev. Dianna Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery with flag presentation by Williamson American Legion Post No. 719. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. (Services and visitation are postponed from the orginial date.) Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston. Duane R. Buxton, son of Lois Luella (Fleming) and Robert Clifford Buxton, was born May 28, 1928, in Waldorf, Minn.

Duane graduated from Cromwell Community High School.

Duane served in the Marine Corps from January 1952 to December 1953.

On Nov. 27, 1955, Duane married Wanda Jean Milner in Cincinnati.

Duane lived most of his adult life in Creston where he farmed and also drove a school bus for more than 20 years.

Duane was a member of Williamson American Legion Post No. 719, local card clubs, Creston Elks Lodge No. 605 and Creston Chorus.

Duane is survived by his wife Wanda Buxton of Creston; son Greg (wife Stacey) Buxton of Creston; daughter Annette Buxton-Hunter (husband Glenn Hunter) of Ankeny; grandchildren, Taylor and Morgan Buxton and Mike and Matt Hunter; sister Marquita Buxton (husband Ralph) Edwards of Rochester, Minn., and their children Grant and Phil Edwards of Rochester, Minn. and Lynn Edwards Brown of Chicago, Ill.; uncle Wendell Fleming of Audubon; and cousins, Lavonne Kershaw of Washington, Garland Buxton of Lenox, Marleta Matheson of Cedar Falls, Marian Champ of Waterloo, Juanita (husband Clyde) Connell of Fla., Joan Fleming of Lenox, Phil Fleming of California, Jean Richardson (husband Joe Henry) of Creston and Lynn Fleming of Idaho.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents.
