COUNCIL BLUFFS — The Creston/Orient-Macksburg girls bowling team rolled past Lewis Central on Dec. 18, while the boys team had a strong showing in a loss to the Titans.

The girls improved to 7-2 for the season with their 2342-2029 victory over Lewis Central.

Anna Wilson led the Panthers, rolling 184-180—364 in a consistent effort. Freshman Madison Hance was close behind with a 177-173—350, while Shaylen Kipp finished with a 178-151—329.

“Another solid day for the girls,” head coach Ron Pendegraft said. “Anna, Madison and Shaylen all had another good day. It’s good to see some consistency starting to take hold. We were without Devon (Eddy) today, but all the girls did a very good job of making up for her absence.”

Emily Lange rolled a 264 two-game series, while Emily Davidson finished with a 235. Jenna Hayes rolled a 226 series.

“Anna led us again. She seems to have found her game and with her in the leadoff spot, she really gives us that spark we need to bowl well,” Pendegraft said. “Madison has also been doing well on a very consistent basis this season.”

Hance leads the girls team at the holiday break with a high average of 174. Wilson averages a 161 so far this season, while Eddy (158) and Kipp (154) are close behind.

“At the break, it would seem we are in good shape at 7-2,” Pendegraft said. “When we get back we will have three matches in the first 10 days. Those should set the tone for the second half as we work toward regionals on Feb. 14.”

Boys

The Panther boys had a solid showing against the Titans, but came up on the short end as Lewis Central topped the 3000 mark.

The Titans defeated Creston/O-M, 3037-2828.

“The boys bowled very well again today,” Pendegraft said. “They came up on the short end of the match today, but it seems that every match we have had this year, we have run into a team that bowled their best match of the year against us.”

Chantz Davidson led the Panthers, now 4-5 for the season, yet again, rolling a 216-211—427. Darin Hatfield finished close behind with a 192-221—413.

“Chantz led us once again with games of 216 and 211,” Pendegraft said. “Darin was close behind with two very good games. Our boys were very competitive, and I felt we had a good chance in the match, but LC threw a 258 in the second Baker game and it was pretty much over at that point. Our kids still hung in there and outscored LC by 56 pins in the last three games, but it wasn’t enough.”

Kenny Wynn rolled a two-game of 361 for the Panthers, while Josh Sawtelle rolled a 352, Blake Eddy finished at 347 and Jacob Wolfe rolled a 320.

“Even though we are at 4-5, I feel we have made some big improvements lately,” Pendegraft said. “The guys have taken direction well and have made some changes in their games that are starting to pay of. I expect us to do well the second half of the season.”

The Panthers return to action at home on Jan. 5 against Harlan, before hosting the Panther Tournament on Jan. 12.
