Pauline Young, 85, of Creston died Dec. 31, 2012, at Greater Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 3, at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Jonathan C. Watt will officiate. Burial of cremated remains will be in Grand River Cemetery. Open visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Memorials are to be determined at a later date. Pauline Young, daughter of Minnie L. (McLaughlin) and Charles F. Green, was born March 16, 1927, in Decatur County.
She attended Decatur County Country School.
On Nov. 1, 1947, Pauline married Donald W. Young in Leon.
Pauline worked as a farm wife living near Decatur, Otley, Knoxville, Beaconsfield and Grand River.
In 1964, Donald and Pauline moved the family to Creston.
Pauline found employment at Bernings Café for several years. Later she went to work at Greater Community Hospital as a housekeeper. She retired after 25 years of service. For a short period, she also worked for Mederer Corporation (Gummi Bear) leaving in 1992 to take care of Donald.
Pauline is survived by her son Daniel W. Young of Altoona; daughter Kathleen A. (husband Barton) Parker of Creston; sister Eleanor “Ellie” Cornett of Mason City; brothers, Neil (wife Donna Jean) Green of Decatur and Elmer (wife Toshiko) Green of Lamoni; sister-in-law Faye Green of Lamoni; grandsons, Billy (wife Andrea) Baker and Mike (wife Rebecca) Guiter of Creston; step-granddaughters, Ashleigh (husband Raf) Rodriguez of Hawaii and Amber (husband Wade) Owen of Washington; brothers-in-law, Chet (wife Fern) Young of Osceola and Bill Jones of Leon; 13 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
Pauline was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1993; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dusky Green, Archie and Gertie Green, Ralph Green and Richard and Martha Green; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Charles Reed, Marcine Jones, Helen and Leland South, Virginia and Ray Waddell and Arlene Young; brothers-in-law, Donald Cornett and Maurice Young; and sisters- and brothers-in-law, Cleta and Paul Knorr and Doris and Clifford Hewlett.
