Fishing law

One of five new state laws taking effect Jan. 1 pertains to Iowa anglers.

A new law under jurisdiction of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources allows fishermen to fish with three poles and a total of six hooks, u fro two poles and four hooks, for an additional $12 license fee.

The measure is aimed at spurring ice fishing. A third line could also help catfish anglers, sponsors of the new measure said.

Another measure allows hunting and fishing on a combined license at a cost of less than spearate licenses. Another provides for three-year licenses for hunting or fishing, also priced lower than cost of renewing them annually.
