Joseph ‘Gene’ Miller Lenox

Joseph Miller, 92, of Lenox died Jan. 3, 2013, in Corning.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lenox. Interment will be in North Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation with family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, at Ritchie Funeral Home, 124 S. Main St., Lenox, with a 7 p.m. Rosary service. Joseph Eugene “Gene” Miller, son of Mary (Sapp) and Joseph Miller, was born May 2, 1920, at the family farm northwest of Sharpsburg.

Gene attended Grove No. 9 Country School and graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1937.

On June 4, 1944, Gene married Rose Novak.

Gene worked for the U.S. Postal Service delivering mail in Sharpsburg, Lenox and Creston, besides farming, raising dairy cows, mowing the cemetery and plowing gardens.

Gene was a member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lenox.

Gene is survived by his children, Stephen (Sharon) Miller of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Catherine (Howard) Yarnell of Maryville, Tenn., David (Rita) Miller of Lenox, Frances Young of Lakeland, Tenn., Margaret (Pat) Murphy of Des Moines, Nancy (Rick) Long of Sycamore, Ill., and Alan (Deb) Miller of Lenox; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister Helen in infancy; brother Raymond Miller; wife Rose; granddaughter Julie Young; and granddaughter-in-law Debbie Miller.
