Fern Adams, 91, of Newton, formerly of Creston, died Jan. 4, 2013, at Newton Healthcare Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St., Creston. The Rev. Tim Maxa of Lenox will officiate. Interment will be in Grand River Cemetery. Open visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday with family present one hour prior to the service. Fern Lucille Adams, daughter of Mary (Hopkins) and Oral Smith, was born April 26, 1921, in Leon.
On Feb. 26, 1941, Fern married Truman Albert Adams in Centerville.
They lived near Grand River until 1960. They lived in Creston for seven years, and then moved to Orient, where they lived for many years. Fern moved to Lenox after the death of her husband in 1994. Fern lived in Newton the past six years of her life.
Fern cooked at the hospital in Creston for several years and also provided cleaning services for various people for several years.
Fern is survived by her daughters, Shirley McCart of Council Bluffs, Jean (Dave) Johnson of Papillion, Neb., Bobbie (Mike) Mohler of Reasnor and Pam (Dan) Jordan of Lenox; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister Marie Moren of Carlisle; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her husband, Fern was preceded in death by her parents; son Laverne “L. T.” Adams in 1997; three brothers and their wives; two sisters and their husbands; and son-in-law Robert McCart.
