Presents For People We Care About was a huge success this year (2012). Every November, the concern is that there will not be enough donations. Each and every year that fear is dismissed with the generosity of our community. It's amazing to see the wonderful things donated each year. One person's trash is another person's treasure definitely applies.

The project started eight years ago in a tiny room with donated items coming from staff. The selection was small, but the kids loved it. We used construction paper and decorated it with markers. Since that time it has expanded into a community project with so many caring individuals willing to donate their things and their time. It has grown into a weeklong event providing kids an opportunity to shop for several family members. It began out of the need to teach children that it can be just as nice to give as to receive.

Donations came from all over this year: Boone, Baxter, Masonville, Cedar Rapids, North Liberty, Greenfield, Clearfield, just to name a few. Of course Creston and the surrounding community picked up the majority of the donations. Several times a day we would be summoned to the office to pick up more donated items.

A special thank you to all of the volunteers. There are too many to name but you know who you are. This project could not go on without all of their help.

Thank you, Creston, for giving children an opportunity to learn the power of giving.
