Mearl Fay, 93, of Corning died Jan. 5, 2013, at Lenox Care Center.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at the United Congregational Methodist Church in Lewis. Inurnment will be 2 p.m. at Atlantic Cemetery. Roland-Ritchie Funeral Home, 905 Benton Ave., Corning, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family or Alzheimer’s Association. Mearl Elvin Fay, son of Minnie Bell (Bartles) and James Edward Fay, was born Feb. 3, 1919, in Lewis.
He grew up in Lewis, where he graduated from Lewis High School and entered the United States Army in 1941. Mearl served in the Aleutian Islands and worked on the Alcan Highway.
On Nov. 21, 1941, Mearl married Isabelle Dorine Rhoads.
Mearl worked many years at Creston Livestock Auction Company and was a livestock buyer.
Mearl is survived by his sons, Tim Fay of Corning, Paul (wife Betty) Fay of Lenox and Mick (wife Kathy) Fay of Lewis; daughter-in-law Karen Fay of Purdum, Neb.; grandchildren, Jeanne and Jason Fay, Kimberly (husband Manny) Lopez, Mindy (husband Shane) Clapper, Max J. (wife Cristin) Fay, Kati (husband Lonnie) Bayles, Aubrey (husband Brett) Weldon, Roger (wife Dominique) Butler, Kerri (husband Jayson) Waller and Kasey Fay; 12 great-grandchildren; many other extended relatives and friends.
Mearl was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2011; sons, Jim Fay in 1969 and Max Fay in 2004; brothers, Eldon, James and Lester Fay; and sisters, Zeta Eblen and Marcella at infancy.
