“Nodaway Valley came out flat and struggled for most of the game agaisnt a very physical East Union team,” NV head coach Tom Thompson said. “It’s not often you can shoot 22 percent from the floor and 50 percent from the line and get a win. Happy to survive this game.”

Mount Ayr 43, Corning 33

CORNING – Mount Ayr defeated Corning 43-33 here on Tuesday, thanks to a big game from Caitlin Giles.

Giles finished with 19 points on 6-of-13 shooting to go along with six steals and three rebounds, as Mount Ayr improved to 6-6 for the season. Ashton Johnston added eight points, while Taylor Still scored six points with four steals and three assists.

“We played great in all aspects of the game,” Mount Ayr head coach Thad Streit said. “I’m proud of our defensive effort as we were outsized.”

Murray 57, Mormon Trail 16

GARDEN GROVE – The Murray Mustangs used a 17-2 first quarter advantage propelling them to a 57-16 win over Mormon Trail here on Tuesday.

Kate Patton scored 24 points with 12 steals, five assists and four rebounds to lead the Mustangs, now 9-2 overall and 3-2 in the Bluegrass Conference. Courtney Siefkas added eight points, while Megan Oswald and Ashley Rider each netted six points. Rider also contributed five steals and five assists.

“We did a good job defensively this evening as we held them to only four made field goals,” head coach Jerry Shields said. “We were able to get everyone some game time.”
