Lorraine Lesan Ankeny

Lorraine Drake Lesan, 88, of Ankeny, formerly of Mount Ayr, died Jan. 7, 2013, at her home in Ankeny.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. Open visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Friday with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to HCI Care Services and Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. Lorraine Drake Lesan, daughter of Mable Ray and Elgie L. Drake, was born July 21, 1924, in rural Iowa near Kellerton.

On Sept. 27, 1944, Lorraine married Robert R. Lesan in West Palm Beach, Fla., where he was stationed in the service.

Lorraine was a farm wife west of Mount Ayr, where she and Bob raised their family.

Lorraine was a member of Mount Ayr United Methodist Church and served in many of the organizations there.

In 1996, they moved from the farm to Mount Ayr.

After Bob died in 1998, Lorraine moved to Ankeny to be near her family there.

She attended Ankeny United Methodist Church and took part in programs there.

Lorraine is survived by her children, Sharon Lesan (Vince) Weber of Ankeny, Jacque Lesan (Guy) Defenbaugh of Savannah, Mo., and Dale Eugene Lesan of Des Moines; granddaughters, Christy (David) Caldwell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Laura (Zac) Coughlin of Savannah, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Austin, Zach and Olivia Caldwell and Zander and Devree Coughlin; and sister Evelyn (Robert) Bourhill of The Dalles, Ore.

In addition to her husband, Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; sister Clyta Hightshoe Thompson; and brother Maj. Joseph A. Drake.
