Creston won the title of the Panther freshman girls tournament Saturday, topping Nodaway Valley 32-17 and Eddyville-Blakesburg in the finals, 43-30.

Jenna Taylor had 14 points and six rebounds for Creston in the championship game.Taylor Briley had 10 points and seven steals.

The Panthers came out ready to play, outscoring Eddyville-Blakesburg 16-5 in the first quarter.

“The girls really rebounded well,” said coach Malliory Peterson. “We played strong inside against a good, taller Eddyville-Blakesburg team. We did a good job getting the ball up against their pressure. It was as aggressive as I’ve seen us play on offense.”

Briley had 14 points and five rebounds to lead Creston past Nodaway Valley in the opener.

“We did a really good job of crashing the offensive boards and were able to get a lot of second looks on offense,” Peterson said. She cited the defense for holding NV to six or fewer points in each quarter.
