Thelma Shawler Creston

Thelma (Nelson) Shawler, 92, of Creston died Jan. 14, 2013, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of Highways 25 and 34. Mary O’Riley will officiate. Burial will be in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox at a later date. Visitation with family present will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are to be established. Thelma Lucille (Nelson) Shawler, daughter of Esther Myrtle (Becherer) and Frank Nelson, was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Taylor County.

Thelma graduated from Lenox High School.

On Jan. 12, 1940, Thelma married Donald Milton Shawler in Creston.

They lived in Taylor, Adams and Union counties and Creston.

Thelma was a homemaker, worked for Sheridan Egg Plant in Lenox, was a bank teller at Cromwell State Bank and also worked for First Federal Savings and Loan in Creston.

Thelma is survived by her husband Donald Shawler of Creston; daughters, Patricia (husband Dennis) Iiams and Janice Johnson, all of Ankeny; sons, Martin W. (wife Joyce) Shawler and Dennis (wife Susan) Shawler, all of Creston; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; brother Harley Nelson; sister Nina Schaffer and son-in-law Vern Johnson.
