Nodaway Valley 68, Lenox 29
LENOX — Nodaway Valley’s hot shooting from behind the 3-point line in the first half propelled the Wolverines to a 68-29 win over Lenox here on Tuesday.
The Wolverines made 9-of-12 3-pointers in the first half, leading 52-11 at the break.
Alex Welsch finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, while Dean Frank recorded 16 points while shooting a perfect 6-of-6 from the field. Dan Ehrsam recorded 14 points with six assists and four rebounds in less than three quarters.
Caleb Lange led Lenox with 13 points, while Mason Peterson added six and Spencer Brown scored four points. Frank Martinez and Carson Cline each finished with three points.
“They are quite a team again — great balance and great effort. Very talented,” Lenox co-head coach Karl Peterson said. “Brad Baudler and Welsch are among the best players in the state. Our kids played hard but were overmatched. Real positives for us were going 13-of-16 from the free throw line and Lange’s 13 points.”
Nodaway Valley hosts Central Decatur Friday night and Creston on Saturday.
Murray 85, Seymour 28
MELCHER — Murray put the game away early in the opening round of the Bluegrass Conference Tournament here on Tuesday, defeating Seymour 85-28.
The Mustangs, now 15-0, led 39-6 after the first quarter.
Austin Halls paced the Mustangs, scoring 25 points with eight steals and seven assists. Matt Johnston and Pat Kilmer each added 11 points and four rebounds, while Cody Scroggie was the only other Mustang in double figures with 10 points to go with five assists and three steals.
Sam Rockhold scored nine points with five rebounds and three steals, while Eddie Otto, Andrew Rider and Brayden Held each netted six points.
“We were very active defensively tonight, and we really distributed the ball well also,” head coach Darin Wookey said. “We had 21 assists and 28 steals on the night. It was a good game again to get a lot of people in and play. We will need to continue to play well, as we are nearing the end of the season.”
Murray takes on Diagonal Friday night in Murray in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Bedford 59, Corning 31
BEDFORD — Bedford pulled away in the fourth quarter thanks to a 23-3 run, defeating Corning 59-31 here on Tuesday.
Keegan Longabaugh recorded a double-double, scoring 13 points with 12 rebounds. Nick Spring added eight points with nine rebounds and three blocks, while Lance Swartz scored five points with nine rebounds.
Bryan Pearson scored three points and Lane Peterson added two points.
“We played really hard, especially in the first three quarters,” head coach Pete Nett said. “We rebounded the ball on both ends, and really committed ourselves to hustling on defense. The final score is not an indication of how close the game was. I was really pleased with our determination to play our style of ball tonight.”
Mount Ayr 67,
East Union 34
AFTON — Mount Ayr broke the game open with a 22-7 run in the third quarter, as the Raiders defeated East Union 67-34 here on Tuesday.
Braydee Poore led the Raiders with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting to go with eight rebounds, four steals, three assists and two blocks. John Triggs added 14 points with five rebounds. Jake Still was the only other player in double figures for Mount Ayr, scoring 12 points with eight boards and seven assists. Jack Jones added nine points.
Trevor Barnett led East Union with 10 points to go with six rebounds, while Sean Schmitz and Dustin Hoyt each scored eight points. Hoyt added six rebounds. Jesse Akers scored four points with seven rebounds. Grant Hall grabbed seven boards to go with two points.
Paton-Churdan 54, Orient-Macks. 27
ORIENT — Paton-Churdan beat Orient-Macksburg 54-27 here on Tuesday.
Chantz Davidson led the Bulldogs with 14 points, while Jacob Caviness added four points. Jordan Thompson pitched in three points, as Jesse Johnson, Tyrell Stucker and James Sullivan each scored two points.
