Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Jan. 16.
Canasta winners were Rose Blakesley, first; Maxine May, second; and Joan Chubick, third.
Gwen Sandeman won the door prize.
Barb Bills hosted cards and chatter Wednesday.
Creston Lions Club
Creston Lions Club met the evening of Jan. 8 at The Pizza Ranch. Twenty-seven members, spouses and guests were present. President Tom Braymen opened and presided over the meeting. The Pledge of Allegiance and invocation was given by Lion Delmer Brown. Guests were Second Vice District Gov. Patrick Parker and one prospective member.
The business meeting included minutes and treasurer’s report. Parker presented the following awards: 45-year membership chevrons to Tom Henderson and Roger Turk; 40-year membership chevron to Tom Braymen; 25-year membership chevron posthumously to Wilbur Ricks; and 15-year membership chevron to Delmer Brown. Parker thanked all the Lions members for their many years of service to the organization.
New members were installed by Parker; they are: Jodi Johnson, sponsored by Rudy Ehm; the Rev. Gideon and Jhona Lyn Gallo, sponsored by Tom Henderson; and Susan Weight, sponsored by Beth Perry.
The annual spud supper plans were discussed. It will be 4 to 7 p.m. Feb. 28 at First United Methodist Church. Tickets are available from Lions members.
Creston Lions held its regular Tuesday noon meeting Jan. 15 at The Pizza Ranch. Lion President Tom Braymen opened the meeting by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Delmer Brown gave the meal blessing. The membership application for Alice Brown was approved.
Several items of business were discussed and tickets for the Feb. 28 spud supper were passed out to be sold to the public. Secretary and treasurer reports were approved.
The public is reminded used eyeglasses and hearing aids are collected by Lions. Containers are at Walmart, memorial room at the restored Creston Depot, Farm and Home, Southern Prairie YMCA, First Christian Church, First United Methodist Church and the rectory re-run shop. There will be a container also at the spud supper.
The next regular meeting of Creston Lions will be 6:30 p.m. Feb. 5 at The Pizza Ranch.
Chapter LG P.E.O.
Chapter LG P.F.O. met Jan, 15 at the home of Lynn Baker with Alice Bowers serving as cohostess. Fifteen members and one visitor responded to roll call.
Rosalie Denton read the winter president’s letter from Barbara Moore to the chapter, wishing a happy new year full of exciting challenges and successes.
Jean Paul presented the program for Founder’s Day.
The next regular meeting will be Feb. 5 at the Christian Church with Irene Francis as hostess and Lori Scott as cohostess.
The birthday luncheon will be Feb. 12 at Adams Street Espresso.
P.E.O. Chapter AZ
The regular business meeting of P.E.O. Chapter AZ was held Nov. 7 at Van Gelder Clothing with Judy Woods and Chris Van Gelder as hostesses. The meeting was conducted by the president, Karla Hynes. Twenty-three members were present.
An invitation was received from Chapter LG to a fundraising auction Nov. 13 at Salem Lutheran Church. Sandy McNichols said today (Nov. 7) was Margaret Weisshaar’s 101 birthday and members should send cards.
Hynes moved the chapter be Emma Johnson’s sponsor as she applies for the P.E.O. Star Scholarship. Christy Whited seconded the motion, and the voice vote was pro. Johnson’s great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and sister are P.E.O. members.
Sharon Bennett gave the program on projects. Through P.E.O. projects, millions of dollars are avaiable to women to continue their educations.
The last regular meeting was Dec. 4 at Salem Lutheran Church.
Super 8 Card Club
Super 8 Card Club met Jan. 17 at Regency Park center.
High was Lee Fresh; second high was Beulah McDonald and low was Leta Larkin.
The next meeting will be Feb. 21 with Lee Fresh as hostess at the center.
Creston United Methodist Women
The first meeting of the New Year for Creston United Methodist Women was the executive meeting held Jan. 3. Jerrie Henderson, president, conducted the business.
On Jan. 13, members of United Methodist Women led the worship services with the theme “The Journey of United Methodist Women.”
Circle meetings were held at the church Jan. 17.
The morning circle met at 9:30 a.m. with Velma Riegel as hostess. Chairperson Susan Weight conducted the business meeting. Eleven members were present. Plans for the public dinner to be served Feb. 17 were discussed. The circle will be hostesses for the guest night scheduled for April 4.
The program titled “Preparing Our Priorities” was led by Beth Perry. Members helped with reading parts and a special version of bingo was played.
The evening circle met at 7 p.m. with 12 members present. Chairperson Rosalie Denton presided. The Feb. 17 public dinner plans were discussed. The circle will be in charge of the program for guest night April 4.
Jerrie Henderson led the program “Preparing Our Priorities.”
The young women’s circle met for a light supper and program under the guidance of Kay Ritter. Six were present. The subject of “Immigration” was discussed. The newly-formed circle will meet again in April.
Greater Regional Medical Center Auxiliary
Greater Regional Medicai Center Auxiliary met Monday at the MAP Conference Room with 10 members and Annette Rice present. Cindy Cochran conducted the meeting.
There was no administrator’s report.
Four volunteers were trained for information guides January 2013..
More guides and gift shop volunteers are always needed. If interested, call volunteer services at 782-3553.
Rice gave a IHA Auxiliary and volunteer news update.
Brian Schon, director of clinic services, gave a report to the board.
Joanne Chubick gave a gift shop report. The gift shop buyers will attend market in February.
Scholarship forms have been forwarded to the area schools.
A bloodmobile will be held Feb. 25 at Trinity Lutheran Hall.
A review was completed of the 2013 calendar.
Legislative Day will be Feb. 27. Some members will attend.
The membership drive is held each year in January, February and March. Yearly dues are $5 for each auxiliary and hospice or $10 for both. All dues may be sent to Volunteer Services, 1700 W. Towntine St., Ste. 3, Creston, IA 50801.
A book sale will be held Feb. 19 and 20.
The jewelry sales for the year are April 9, Sept. 10 and Dec. 17, 2013.
The next meeting will be Feb. 11.
Rebecca Circle
Rebecca Circle met 7 p.m. Jan. 17 at the First Christian Church with four members present.
Twila Brant opened the meeting with the DWF prayer.
Secretary’s report was read and approved.
Treasurer’s report was given. Twenty-five dollars has been given to the Christmas basket. There is $62.50 in the treasurery.
Old business: Bev Roberts took Christmas presents to shut-ins.
The church bulletins were not delivered because of the flu at the nursing homes.
Midge Scurlock reported on the meeting she attended in Des Moines. She took more training for Elders Sunday.
Sue Adams gave the lesson about the Woman at the Well.
The next meeting will be 7 p.m. Feb. 21 at the home of Twila Brant.
