William Scott Sharpsburg

William Scott, 92, of Sharpsburg died Jan. 18, 2013, at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Ritchie Funeral Home, 124 S. Main St., Lenox. Interment with military rites accorded by Parkinson American LegionPost No. 250 will be in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. today with family present 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Southwest Iowa. William Nelson Scott, son of Violet Susan (Knott) and Walter Norton Scott, was born Aug. 16, 1920, in Taylor County on a farm north of Sharpsburg.

He grew up and lived his entire life in the Sharpsburg area.

Bill attended country schools and graduated from Sharpsburg High School in 1938.

Bill served during World War II as a United States Marine serving in the South Pacific.

After his discharge from the service, Bill returned to Sharpsburg and farmed the rest of his life.

On Sept. 12, 1944, Bill married Doris Klinzman in Bedford.

In addition to farming, Bill was in the grain business for more than 30 years and owned Scott Feed and Grain in Sharpsburg and Bedford Feed and Grain in Bedford.

Bill was a member of Sharpsburg United Methodist Church, Clearfield Lion’s Club and Lenox American Legion Parkinson Post No. 250.

Bill is survived by his children, Norma (husband Charles) Wickenhauser of Kerrville, Texas, Fred (wife Barb) Scott of Lenox, Wilma (husband Bill) Majors of Everton, Ark., and Julia Foster of Indianola; brother Donald (wife Nellie) Scott of Lenox; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2010; and sisters, Faye Ratliff, Helen Scott and Hazel Scott.
