Edwin Roberts Creston

Edwin L. “Ed” Roberts, 88, of Creston died Jan. 20, 2013, at Arbor Springs in West Des Moines.

Graveside services and burial will be held at a later date at Graceland Cemetery. Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are to be established. Online condolences may be left at

Edwin Lewis Roberts, son of Rose Emma (Davis) and Glenn Wood “Ike” Roberts, was born April 23, 1924, in Afton.

He graduated from Creston High School in 1942.

On May 22, 1949, Edwin married Delores Louise Inlow in Creston. They settled and lived all of their married lives in the Creston area.

Edwin worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for more than 40 years, retiring as an engineer in 1983.

Edwin was a member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 605, Crest City Lodge No. 522 A.F. & A.M., both of Creston, and Brotherhood of United Transportation Union and National Association of Retired and Veteran Railway Employees.

Edwin is survived by his wife Delores; daughters, Patti (husband Hollis) Dodge of Creston, Connie (husband Dan) Coen of Creston and Gloria Jean (husband Jerry) Green of Columbia, Mo.; son Steve (wife Shawn) Roberts of Ames; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Molly Claypool of Green Valley, Ariz., and Joanne Lake of Creston; stepsisters, Trudy (husband Bill) Claypool of Cedar Rapids, Venita Justus of Susanville, Calif., and Ardith Wilke of Boise, Idaho; stepbrother Bob (wife Sue) Roberts of Afton; sisters-in-law, Caroline Inlow of Orient and Flossie Roberts of Creston; many nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother; brother Harold Roberts; stepbrother Ron Jarmon and brothers-in-law, Don Inlow, Dale Lake, Lester Claypool, Howard Wilke and Jess Justus.
