Mary Baird Creston

Mary Baird, 93, of Creston died Jan. 20, 2013, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 24, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church. The Rev. Kenneth Halbur Jr. will officiate. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 809 W. Montgomery St. A Christian Wake service will be 6 p.m. Wednesday and visitation with family present will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given in Mary’s name. Mary Kathryn Baird, daughter of Catherine Gertrude (Howe) and Patrick Henry Hannan, was born June 2, 1919, in Creston.

Mary attended school in Creston and graduated from Creston High School.

In 1944, Mary married Charles Frederick Baird in Tyler, Texas, and they raised five children.

After World War II, Charles and Mary made their home in Creston and lived in Creston more than 50 years.

Charles died in 1986.

Mary worked as a beautician in Creston for many years in several different beauty shops.

Mary was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Council of Catholic Women. Mary was also a member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Lady Elks and several bridge clubs. Mary volunteered many hours as a hospice volunteer.

Mary is survived by her daughter Kathleen Jones of Canton, Mich.; sons, Fred Baird of Newton, Bill Baird of Angier, N.C., and Tom Baird (significant other Brenda Scadden) and Steve Baird, all of Creston; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Thomas and Patrick Hannan.
