Pesticide applicator continuing education classes set

Published: Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013 11:30 a.m. CDT

GREENFIELD — Adair County Extension will be hosting private pesticide continuing education classes at three locations this year. The first session is set for 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 31 at the 4-H and FFA Center at Adair County Fairgrounds in Greenfield.

Iowa Corn is sponsoring a crop fair, at the same location, starting with lunch at 11:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. Featured presentations will include a legislative update from Amanda Taylor, senior policy advisor for Iowa Corn; Marketing in a Volatile Year from Dan Greder, Sciota Trading of Ames; Iowa Nutrient Management Strategy from Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey and Corn Management in a Dry Year, Lessons from 2012 by Roger Elmore, Iowa State University Extension corn agronomist. There is no cost to attend the crop fair.

Additional private pesticide applicator trainings will be held 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Feb. 8 in Room 180 at Southwestern Community College in Creston and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 4 at Adair Community Center.

State law forbids admitting late-comers, so license holders are encouraged to arrive 20 to 30 minutes in advance of the actual start time to register. Attending a two-hour class each year allows a license holder to renew their license using the training option. The continuing education class will be taught by Aaron Saeugling, ISU Extension crop specialist. There is a $20 class enrollment fee, payable at the class site to Adair County Extension.

License holders may attend a continuing-education session at any location, regardless of where they live, prior to the April 15 deadline.

Adair County Extension is offering a text message reminder the day of PPAT classes. To receive a reminder message, call Adair County Extension and provide your cell number, provider and the date(s) that you wish to have reminders for.

For more information about the private pesticide certification process or to make an inquiry about the status of your license, contact Adair County Extension at 641-743-8412 or 1-800-ISUE399.
