Be bold and go gold!
Orient-Macksburg Bulldogs are hosting a cancer awareness basketball game against Adair-Casey Bombers Tuesday, Jan. 29.

Katie Geidel, TAG/At Risk instructor, said O-M TAG (Talented and Gifted) students organized the event.
“The Creston EAST program has done something like this for the last four or five years, and they’ve had a good response (so we tried it, too),” said Geidel.
This is the first awareness basketball game planned at O-M, and Geidel said she wants to make it annual.
Cancer
The awareness basketball game is focused on raising awareness of childhood cancer, and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the American Childhood Cancer Organization.
“In the last year we had a senior, he’s graduated now, ... and a girl who’s a freshman, they were both diagnosed with cancer,” said Geidel.
Brandon Sammons was diagnosed with stage II Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, cancer originating in the white blood cells called lymphocytes. Stage II involves two or more lymph node regions on the same side of the diaphragm, or of one lymph node region and a contiguous extralymphatic site.
Brittany Cruz was diagnosed with high-grade, pleomorphic undifferentiated sarcoma in her thigh. This is a soft-tissue sarcoma that develops in connective tissue and is considered “undifferentiated” because it cannot be more precisely categorized. It rarely affects children.
“We just wanted to do something, kind of raise awareness, and to help fund research for all families involved with childhood cancer,” Geidel said.
There will be performances from Creston High School Drumline, Winter Guard and Salts and Peppers, as well as O-M Elementary Bulldog Basketball. Items donated for the raffle include an area rug, iPad, gift cards and crock pot.
Game
The girls and boys varsity basketball teams will be hosting the game at Orient-Macksburg gymnasium beginning at 5 p.m. with a meal served by the Orient-Macksburg junior class.
The varsity girls play at 6:15. At half-time, Creston High School’s Drumline and Winter Guard will perform
After the varsity girls play, O-M Elementary Bulldog Basketball will scrimmage.
O-M varsity boys play against the Bombers after the elementary basketball team scrimmages. At half-time, Creston High School’s co-ed dance team, Salts and Peppers, will perform. Raffle winners will also be announced.
T-shirts
T-shirt and bracelet pick up will be 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and 3-6 p.m. Friday at Creston High School Commons, as well as all day Monday at O-M School office.
Bracelets will be available for purchase at the game. The bracelets are gold and cost $3, or 2 for $5.

Creston “Color Blast” Game Info
Who: Creston High School Panthers will play a double-header basketball game versus Red Oak Tigers.
What: The Panthers are hosting a “Color Blast” awareness basketball game.
Where: The games will be played at Creston High School and Creston Middle School.
When: The Panthers play Feb. 1. At 4:30 p.m. freshman girls play at the high school and freshman boys play at the middle school. At 6 p.m. varsity girls play at the high school and junior varsity boys play at the middle school. At 7:30 p.m. varsity boys play at the high school and junior varsity girls play at the middle school.
Why: The students are hosting the “Color Blast” in order to raise awareness for cancer and community memberes who need help.
How: Creston High School student government and boys and girls basketball are hosting a cancer awareness basketball game. The girls will be wearing pink uniforms during the games, and the boys will be wearing tie-dyed shirts during warm-ups. T-shirts will be available for purchase, colorful food will be for sale and a sign-up sheet for a half-court shot at half-time will be available.
Proceeds: All proceeds raised during the cancer awareness basketball game will go to various causes, including American Cancer Society and students within the Creston School District fighting diseases.
