Both Creston/Orient-Macksburg bowling teams picked up victories over Shenandoah here on Saturday.

The Panther boys won a close match, 2436-2388 over the Mustangs, while the girls won 2387-1920.

Josh Sawtelle led the boys team, now 11-6 for the season, with a two-game series of 363. Chantz Davidson finished close behind with a 352, while Kenny Wynn, Blake Eddy and Darin Hatfield all finished packed together with scores of 297, 296 and 294, respectively.

“Even though we did not bowl as well as we hoped, we did what we needed to do to win this close match,” head coach Ron Pendegraft said. “Leading by only 31 points after round one, we came in the first game of the Baker round and threw 215 to increase our lead to 104, and then held on to win by 48.”

Shenandoah’s boys had defeated Creston/O-M earlier in the season on Dec. 15.

“It was nice to get even with Shen after losing a close match at their place earlier in the season,” Pendegraft said. “Scores were lower than normal all day, but our kids stayed positive and made the best of what they were faced with, and because of that, handled the pressure better than the Shen kids.”

Girls

Shaylen Kipp had a big day on the lanes in leading the Creston/O-M girls to a 2387-1920 win, improving them to 14-3 for the season.

Kipp rolled a high two-game series of 374 to lead the Panthers. Madison Hance rolled a series of 305, while Anna Wilson and Devon Eddy finished with scores of 296 and 294, respectively. Jenna Hayes tallied a 271 and Mackenzie McKinney rolled a 210.

“The girls bowled very steady today,” Pendegraft said. “Once again it was a solid, slightly above average showing, but we are still leaving too many pins that we should be picking up. Shaylen was our high scorer today, and has been making some very encouraging improvements over the last couple of matches.

“With three regular season matches to go we are in a good place having been very consistent, scoring-wise. With an away match at Leon next weekend, and the final two matches at home, that gives us a favorable scenario for continuing to bowl well and carrying that into regionals. Regardless of where they are, I expect us to do well.”
