Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary met Jan. 23.

Canasta winners were Joan Chubick, first; Barb Bills, second; and Beulah McDonald, third.

Connie Bailey won the door prize.

Gwen Sandeman hosted cards and chatter Wednesday.

Mary Circle

Mary Circle of First Christian Church met Jan. 17 at the church hosted by Barb Lightner. Thirteen members were present.

President Pat Fils called the meeting to order with the Disciple Women’s prayer.

The secretary’s report was read and approved.

Margaret Wilkins gave the treasurer’s report with $850.59 for donations and gifts for the church staff for Christmas. Report was approved.

Old business was discussed, which was the circle goal.

There was no new business.

Rhonda Vogel gave the lesson on Delilah from “Bad Girls of the Bible.” After the discussion from the lesson, Fils closed the meeting.

The next meeting will be Feb. 21 at the church with Joyce Burkhead as hostess.

Catholic Daughters

Catholic Daughters of the Americas met in the parish hall after Mass celebrated by the Rev. Ken Halbur.

The evening started off pizza, salad and dessert.

Regent Betty Baker led the group in prayer, and the Pledge of Allegiance was said.

Minutes were read, Kathy Tapkin made a motion to approve the minutes, and it was seconded by Retta Ripperger.

The treasurer’s report was read, Lois Nelson made a motion to approve the report, and it was seconded by Arlene Carlson. No outstanding bills were presented.

Discussion was made regarding the bake sale that was held at Bunn. Discussion was held on what time to hold the sale and whether to advertise with signs. These ideas were tabled until a later date.

June Huewe is joining the organization.

A thank you was read by Halbur for thinking of him at Christmas time.

Betty extended a thank you to Retta for conducting the meeting last month in her absence.

The 50th Biennial State Convention for Iowa will be April 10-21 in Fort Dodge. At least three delegates need to attend this convention. Betty, Pat and Theresa were named to be the delegates to go to the convention. Kathy Tapkin made a motion to accept these names, and Sharon Skarda seconded it. It was approved. Jean Miller and Retta Ripperger will be alternates.
