Youth ice fishing clinic Feb. 9 at Green Valley
A youth finishing clinic will be presented Feb. 9 at Green Valley State Park northwest of Creston.
Corey Carlton, Iowa Department of Natural Resources conservation officer for Union and Ringgold counties, is leading the clinic in conjunction with volunteers with High Lakes Outdoor Alliance.
“This is going to be a free event for all youth under 18 years old,” Carlton said. “We are going to have the event every year, as long as the conditions are safe. We want to give any child the opportunity to experience ice fishing and help promote a healthy and positive life-long activity.”
The event is going to include a fish fry lunch, and prizes will be distributed at the end of the clinic.
“We’re going to drill fishing holes, showe them the ice shacks with the heaters and how comfortable you can be, and enjoy good fishing,” Carlton said. “It’s a growing trend and we think it’s good to get information out to the young people.”
Participants age 16 and above need a fishing license in advance. Everyone is to mee at the southwest boat ramp at 10 a.m., with the fish fry meal at 11:30 a.m. Registration is required by Feb. 6.
To register, call 641-782-5131 to register, and include name and date of birth. For information, call Corey Carlton at 641-414-2173.
