CORNING — Corning jumped to a 26-11 lead in the first quarter and sailed to the 21-point Pride of Iowa Conference victory.

“We played relaxed tonight, worked the ball well and played solid defense,” said Corning co-coach Julie Krauth. “All 13 players saw playing time and provided strong support off the bench.”

Ella Akin led the Red Raiders with 19 points and six rebounds. Marie Palmer provided 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks. Paige Jessen had eight points, five rebounds and four assists.

Marissa Drake came off the bench for Corning )7-12) to chip in eight points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Maynes finished with nine points and Tiffany Shepherd added five.

Madison Douglas turned in 19 points, three rebounds and four steals for Lenox (2-16). Aurora Arevalo and Sydney Barker each scored 12 points, with Arevalo grabbing six rebounds. Also snaring six rebounds with four points was Katie Dukes, and Kara Henrichs had seven points and four rebounds.

Chariton 38,

Mt. Ayr 30

MOUNT AYR — Senior Miranda Davis had 14 points to lead Chariton to a 38-30 victory over the Mount Ayr girls Monday night.

Mount Ayr led 8-7 after one quarter, the game was tied 20-20 at halftime and Chariton took control with a 14-7 third period. Chariton managed a 4-3 edge over the final eight minutes.

“We played a great first half and went to sleep in the second half offensively,” said Raiderette coach Thad Streit. “Too many turnovers and not enough shot attempts.”

Mount Ayr had 22 turnovers to Chariton’s 11. Chelsea McGee had eight rebounds for Chariton (7-10) and Kyle Bengston contributed four assists and five steals.

Taylor Still had six points and 10 rebounds for Mount Ayr (9-9). Paige Daughton had five points and five rebounds. Ashton Johnson also scored five points with a team-high three assists. Daughton and Emily Fox each had two steals.
