Snowstorm drops 3 to 5 inches on Creston; all area schools cancelled

Poor visibility and icy conditions forced every school in the Creston News Advertiser area to cancel school this morning. A winter storm — starting around 10 p.m. Tuesday evening — dropped anywhere from 3 to 5 inches of snow in the Creston area by 6 a.m. making it difficult for commuters this morning.

“It’s real slick under that snow,” said John Hays, Creston city roads superintendent. “Those slick conditions and poor visibility have been the real problems on the city roads this morning, but these are typical winter conditions in Iowa. The thing is we haven’t seen these conditions much this year.”

Steve Akes, county engineer, said county roads are in the same shape as city roads.
