Interesting weather we are having this month

I’m not sure from day to day if I need to be wearing my shorts or my snow boots.

We have had some really cold days and then we get a couple of warm days. We have had rain, sleet and snow this month. Some days you can ice fish and in the same week you can’t because of the ice opening up.

In January, so far, we have had five days in the 50s, one day in the 60s and five days with lows in the single digits.

The pond near Greater Regional Hospice Home was half unfrozen on Tuesday and most of the rest of this month it was frozen over. I guess if you don’t like the weather today, just wait a day or two and it’ll change!

Friends

The Friends of the Library are back taking orders for their annual Valentine’s cookie bouquets in support of the library.

If you would like to order a bouquet, they are $10 for six cookies and $15 for 12. This year you can even get gluten-free cookies. A box of those is $12. The money raised goes to the summer reading program. You can call the library at 782-2277 to place an order.

Doing the summer reading program as a kid is probably one of the reasons I got into journalism. It was always a lot of fun and it sure helped with my reading skills throughout my school and professional career. I would encourage any parent to get their kids involved in the summer reading program. It is a valuable program for any kid.
