Merle Gilbert — Creston

Merle Gilbert, 53, of Creston died Jan. 29, 2013, at his home.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Merle Daniel Gilbert, son of Violet Jean (Eggy) and Galen Ivan Gilbert, was born Jan. 13, 1960, in Oregon City, Ore.

Merle graduated from East Union High School in 1978 and received his associate degree in carpentry from Southwestern Community College.

On Jan. 11, 1989, Merle married Dina Rutledge.

Merle worked for Westman Siding for approximately 15 years, operated M&D Siding out of Creston and worked throughout the Midwest doing siding. Most recently, he worked with his brother Wes in Gilbert Salvage.

Merle is survived by his wife Dina Gilbert of Creston; mother Violet Gilbert of Flippin, Ark.; stepdaughters, Kelley Malone, Samantha Booth and Erikka (husband Eric) Godden, all of Creston; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; stepmother Blanche Gilbert of Shannon City; brothers, Wes Gilbert (special friend Jacque Hellberg) of Shannon City, Terry Gilbert (special friend Vera Kozlovd) of Shannon City, Bernard “Chuck” (wife Marie) Gilbert of Yellville, Ark., James (wife Virginia) Day of Orlando, Fla., William (wife Gayle) Gilbert of Jacksonville, Fla., Johnnie (wife Geil) Gilbert of Kearney, Neb., and Larry (wife Saundra) Palmer of North Kansas City, Mo.; and sisters, Jennifer (husband Zach) Prosper of Flippin, Ark., Connie Vicker of Aurora, Colo., Gale Anne Jennings of Windsor, Colo., Jackie Greuter of Kearney, Neb., and Devie (husband Charlie) Bowman of Savannah, Mo.

Merle was preceded in death by his father in 1998 and grandparents.
