Fourth-quarter spurt lifts NV girls

GREENFIELD — Nodaway Valley broke away from a 36-36 tie early in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Mount Ayr girls Thursday, 47-39, in a makeup game from Tuesday’s postponement.

Mount Ayr had four critical turnovers against Nodaway Valley’s aggressive defense during a stretch in which the Wolverines moved ahead 44-36 with 4:10 to play.

The Wolverines had a couple miscues of their own with the ball while operating a delay game, but made just enough free throws to hang on for the victory.
