Sheriff

Kevin Floyd Edwards, 51, of Cumberland was charged 7:15 p.m. Saturday on a Union County warrant for tampering with a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

According to a Union County Sheriff report, a possible theft of a motor vehicle was reported to Creston Police at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 27. An eye witness saw the vehicle being towed by an older, black GMC truck that had been converted to a tow truck. The GMC described was known to match a vehicle frequently used by Edwards. Upon investigation, Edwards was identified as a suspect and was attempted to be reached by law enforcement. At 3 p.m., Edwards was witnessed leaving the area where the vehicle was reported missing in the GMC truck. The missing vehicle had been returned; however, the vehicle had been tampered with. Upon investigation it was discovered Edwards was not a valid driver at the time the officer witnessed him operating the GMC truck on public roadways.

Edwards was released on promise to appear.
