Shelton announces resignation from city council

Betty Shelton, who has served as Ward 3 representative since 1998, announced her resignation from Creston City Council Tuesday. In her 50-year residency in Creston, Shelton raised a daughter and three sons with husband Don. Over the years, Shelton has volunteered her time with the Girl Scouts, Creston Parks and Recreation Board, Creston Chamber of Commerce and was involved on the chamber’s Image Enhancement Committee.

Shelton is heading to Texas, 24 miles west of Fort Worth, to live with her son Rick Shelton and daughter-in-law Kim.

“My son built me an addition,” said Shelton in a phone interview Thursday. “I’ll have a view of the fountain from my deck. This is going to be something different.”
