The search for Creston School District’s new superintendent is ongoing.
In an interview with Creston News Advertiser, interim Superintendent Chuck Scott laid out a timeline for how the school district will go about hiring a new superintendent.
“The firm that they hired is G. Tryon and Associates,” said Scott. “They’ve been doing this for years and they are very good at it.”
Applications had to be received by Jan. 19. On Jan. 21-Feb. 15, G.Tryon and Associates representatives will look into each applicant’s references. The consulting firm based out of Johnston was hired by the district in August.
“So the process works well, and the firm is doing their job as far as receiving applications, doing reference checks,” Scott said. “Then they’ll come to the board ... From that process, and with the guidance of the firm, they’ll try to get it down to four or six applicants.”
Creston School Board will meet in closed session Feb. 19 to select the semifinalists. All applicants are confidential until this step. Then, Feb. 22, the board will interview the semi-finalists. After the interviews, the board will choose two candidates.
On Feb. 25, G. Tryon and Associates representatives will meet with focus groups, which consist of district staff and other members of the community, to discuss questions they may have concerning the choice of superintendent.
On Feb. 26 and 27, the finalists will be interviewed by the school board and focus groups in public interviews.
After the public interviews, the school board will meet in closed session Feb. 28 to discuss the candidates and select the finalist.
The finalist will be announced March 1, tentatively. That evening, G. Tryon and Associates representatives will inform the candidate of the decision and thank the other applicants. The consulting firm will discuss compensation with the finalist, and a contract will be mailed.
“Once it’s signed, it’s a good deal,” Scott said. “But it’s never official until the board acts on the contract being signed.”
