Panther bowlers prepare for final regular season meet

Published: Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 11:35 a.m. CST

The Creston/Orient-Macksburg girls bowling team defeated both Lewis Central and Norwalk here on Saturday, while the boys team topped Norwalk, but couldn’t quite edge out Lewis Central.

The girls put up a team score of 2290, beating out Norwalk’s 1956 and Lewis Central’s 1697.

“The girls bowled well enough to win, but I felt we were just not at our best today,” head coach Ron Pendegraft said. “We were distracted by equipment issues, but those are things that happen and have to be dealt with.”

Madison Hance led the way individually for the Panthers with a 357, while Devon Eddy and Anna Wilson rolled scores of 325 and 312, respectively. Shaylen Kipp finished with a 290 and Emily Davidson tallied a 277. Jenna Hayes contributed a 249.

The Panthers scored a 729 in the Baker Rotation, which was not as good as Pendegraft had hoped.

“That is where we fell short,” Pendegraft said. “As a team, we bowled slightly below average.”

The boys team finished with a score of 2551, sandwiched between Lewis Central at 2601 and Norwalk at 2470.

“Like the girls team, we bowled OK, but we were just off our game,” Pendegraft said. “We had some solid games, but not enough to overtake LC for the win. The match was close the entire match. Our boys were a close third after round one, and were consistent and solid through the Baker round.”

Josh Sawtelle led the Panther boys with a two-game of 388, while Blake Eddy finished with a 346. Jacob Wolfe bowled a 321 and Kenny Wynn finished at 313. Chantz Davidson rolled a 288 and Darin Hatfield finished at 257.

“We have had a couple of mediocre matches lately, and I hope this is the calm before both our teams break out with some big scores to finish off the season,” Pendegraft said.

Creston/O-M returns to action Saturday, hosting Denison-Schleswig on senior day.

The girls match will be for the unofficial Hawkeye 10 title. Bowling is not a Hawkeye 10 sanctioned sport.

But, both Creston/O-M and Denison-Schleswig have only one loss in head-to-head matchups, so the winner will have the best record in the conference.

Bowling begins at 1 p.m. at Panther Lanes.
