Man dies while ice fishing in Adair County

A Menlo man died Friday after falling through the ice while ice fishing in Adair County.

James Alan Wallace, 62, was reportedly ice fishing at a private farm pond approximately six miles southwest of Menlo in north central Adair County Friday afternoon. Family reported Wallace missing to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office after he failed to return home after ice fishing.

A search ensued and an Adair County sheriff’s deputy located Wallace’s vehicle near a farm pond. Shortly thereafter, Wallace was spotted in the water. Wallace was pulled from the water by rescue personnel and pronounced dead at the scene by the Adair County Medical Examiner.
