Gail Diers Orient

Gail Diers, 87, of Orient died Feb. 10, 2013, at his home.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield. The Rev. Ken Gross will officiate. Burial will be in Orient Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today with family present 6 to 8 p.m. at Steen Funeral Home, 101 S.E. Fourth St., Greenfield. Memorials may be directed to the Gail Diers memorial fund to be established by the family at a later date. Online condolences may be left at www.steenfunerals.com.

Gail Wayne Diers, son of Mary Ann (Burg) and William Christopher Diers, was born June 5, 1925, on the family farm near Orient.

Gail was raised and lived his entire life in Adair County.

He graduated from Orient Consolidated Schools in 1944.

Gail farmed with his father during high school and began his life-long occupation of farming after graduation.

He drove a school bus for Orient Schools for 23 years and was Adair County assessor for several years.

On Dec. 6, 1949, Gail married Donna Littrell at St. John’s Catholic parsonage in Greenfield.

They moved to their current farm in 1966.

Gail was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and later St. John’s Catholic Church.

Gail is survived by his wife Donna Diers of Orient; son Larry (wife Risa) Diers of Orient; daughters, Patti (husband John) Wilson of Orient, Janet (husband Jeff) McAtee of Stuart and Jolene (husband Phil) Neal of Orient; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Diers of Greenfield and Bill (wife Ruth) Diers of Dallas, Texas; other relatives and friends.

Gail was preceded in death by his parents; brother Lowell Diers and a sister in infancy.
