Ladies Lakeshore Auxiliary

Ladies Lakshore Auxiliary met Feb. 13.

Canasta winners were Barb Bills, first; Rose Blakesley, second; and Maxin May, third.

Gwen Sandeman won the door prize.

Barb Veitz was hostess for cards and chatter Wednesday.

Mary Kline won the door prize.

Kline will be hostess for cards and chatter Wednesday, Feb. 27.

VFW Post 1797

VFW Post 1797 met Feb. 12 at Elk’s Lodge. Twenty-nine members and guests were present for dinner.

Commander O’Daniels called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. with 18 members present.

The post draped the charter for comrades Bob Harpin, LF Hull and Dayl Bradley.

Service officers report was hospital 74 hours, Honor Guard 76 hours and community service 14 hours for a total of 164 hours.

The post surgeon has visited veterans at both nursing homes.

In old business, if anyone has old flags to dispose of take them to the VA office at the courthouse.

In new business, general orders include the booth at the state fair.

There was more discussion on the sign at the VFW ball field. O’Daniels brought two examples of signs. A motion was made to table it until a committee looked over the site.

Denny Abel gave a challenge to all members to sign up new members to the post.
With soldiers returning from Afghanistan, now should be a good time to recruit.

Emma Johnson was rewarded for her participation in the Voice of Democracy contest.

O’Daniels gave a report on district and state VFW. The next district meeting will be April 6 in Ottumwa.

The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. The next meeting will be March 12 at Elk’s Lodge: 6 p.m. dinner and 7 p.m. meeting. All veterans are encouraged to attend.

Lincoln Neighbors Club

Lincoln Neighbors met Feb. 13 at the church basement with Kris Hoakison as hostess. Phyllis opened the meeting. Hoakison gave the devotions and read “Bedtime Blessing” and “The Magic of Love.” Roll call was answered by 11 members with a Bible verse.

Funnies were shared by all.

The secretary read the minutes of the November meeeting. The minutes were approved.
