There was no new business to discuss.

In old business, the club discussed to draw for secret pals at the February meeting each year. Dean made a motion to draw for them at the first of the year. Mary seconded the motion. Motion carried. Members drew for secret sisters.

The meeting closed with the Lord’s prayer.

There was a white elephant exchange.

Hoakison served refreshments of cherry pie dessert with coffee.

The next meeting will be March 13 with Phyllis Huff as hostess. Place to be determined.

Kiwanis

The weekly Kiwanis meeting was held 12:05 p.m. Tuesday at The Windrow with 24 members and one guest. Chris Fredrickson, president-elect, presided. Jim Morris gave the prayer, and Mike Linch was finemaster.

The program was Charlie Westman, vice president of Union County Habitat for Humanity, who discussed the program with their fifth house going to be started at 622 N. Birch.

This year’s Pancake Day fundraiser will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. March 26 at the United Methodist Church, on the corner of Elm and Howard streets. Tickets are now available from members, $6 per adult all you can eat bought in advance, $7 at the door.

The Book Club

The Book Club met Feb. 4 with Barb Thomsen as hostess. Eight members were present.

The secretary report was read and approved. Roll call was answered about books you read in January.

There was an invitation read to all club members to a coffee house event 6:30 p.m. Monday at the library. They are encouraging people to perform selections. Selections may include poetry, exerpts from books or articles. If interested in participating, call the library at 782-2277.

The program was by Carolyn Hubatka on the book “The Lost Boy,” about Mickey Mantle and the end of his childhood.

The next meeting will be 1:30 p.m. March 4 at Kelly’s Garden Cafe with Carolyn Hubatka as hostess. Dorothy McNaught will have the program.

TOPS 1338

TOPS 1338 met Feb. 11 with 10 members. The best loser for the week was Thompson, with Belew in second place. Loomis presided over the business meeting. Both minutes and treasurer’s reports were presented.
