Wrestlers honored

A public ice cream social honoring the Creston/Orient-Macksburg wrestling team for their state tournament achievements will be held 6 to 8 p.m. today at Creston Middle School.

The Panthers placed fifth in Class 2A with 70 points. Jake Marlin became the 22nd Iowan, and first in southwest Iowa, to win four state championships. He also set a new state record with 147 career pins.

Also, Keaton Hulett won a state championship and Trevor Frain placed fourth. Wyatt Thompson and Nate Robinson also qualified.

Panther frosh

HARLAN — An undermanned Creston freshman team concluded its season last Tuesday in a 75-32 loss at Harlan.

Sam Eagan led the Panthers with 10 points, followed by Nick Walsh with eight, Brandon Jones five, Brandon Lee four and Josh Reed two.

“The boys played a very good second half, even though the score is not reflective of that,” coach Larry Beaman said. “The boys had a very trying season with ineligibility issues as well as other things, but kept trying and had a good attitude through it all. We wish the varsity good luck on their upcoming tournament games and hopefully on through to state.”
