Betty Maltzahn Creston

Betty Maltzahn, 86, of Creston died Feb. 10, 2013, at Crest Haven Care Centre.

Visitation with family present will be 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. Memorials may be given to the Arthritis Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Beatrice “Betty” Jane Smrkovski, daughter of Agnes Pauline (Hronek) and James Anton Smrkovski, was born Jan. 6, 1927, in Havelock.

Betty graduated from Pocahontas High School.

On June 26, 1945, Betty married Charles “Chuck” Maltzahn.

They lived in various places in Iowa as Chuck advanced his career in the grocery business.

She was a homemaker and worked at various jobs outside the home.

Betty is survived by her husband Charles Frederick Maltzahn; sons, Steve (wife Marilyn) Maltzahn of Creston and Phil (wife Vicki) Maltzahn of Grand Island, Neb.; grandchildren, Traci (husband Mike) Tamerius of Creston, Scott (wife Sandra) Maltzahn of Fort Collins, Colo., and Todd Maltzahn of Fort Collins, Colo.; and great-grandchildren, Jessica Tamerius of Iowa City, Alex Tamerius of Creston and Avery and Andre Maltzahn of Fort Collins, Colo.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Vern, Lester, Clarence and Gaylord Smrkovski.
