Dean Schaffer Kent

Reldon “Dean” Schaffer, 74, of Kent died Feb. 21, 2013, at his home.

Services will be 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25, Creston. The Rev. Richard Queener will officiate. Burial will be Monday, Feb. 25, in West Fairview Cemetery in Lenox. Open visitation will be noon to 5 p.m. Sunday with family present 3 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Reldon “Dean” Schaffer, son of Nina Belle (Nelson) and Kenneth Sylvester Schaffer, was born Feb. 10, 1939, in Prescott.

Dean lived in Lenox and was educated at Lenox Schools.

On Dec. 22, 1955, Dean married Betty Jean Turnbull in Lenox.

They lived in the Creston and Lenox areas all of their married life where Dean farmed.

In 1995, they moved to the Kent area, and he farmed many years with Ronnie and Brett Routh.

Dean was a member of various saddle clubs and Taylor County Sheriff’s Posse and involved in many parades with the saddle club, where he also drove his pony hitches.

Dean is survived by his wife Betty of Kent; sons, Jim (wife Alice) Schaffer of Creston and Greg (Kim Webb) Schaffer of Gilman City, Mo.; grandchildren, Jeremy (wife Angie) Schaffer, Autumn Wilson and Cody (wife Tracy) Schaffer; great-grandchildren, Reese, Elijah and Jaxson Schaffer and Skyler and MaKayla Wilson; and sister Barbara (husband Merle) Swank of Lenox.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents; son Jeffrey Allen and daughter Debra, both in infancy.
