Rahim Mohammad Koshdel, 22, of Des Moines was charged 2 p.m. Friday at 107½ N. Maple St. on a Polk County warrant and for serious assault.

According to a Creston Police report, officers responded to a 911 call involving a fight and physical altercation that was in progress at 107½ N. Maple St. Upon arrival the complaintant met with officers and had visible injuries. According to the complaintant and witnesses, Koshdel entered a hallway and repeatedly struck the complaintant without cause or justification.

Koshdel was released on $1,000 bond.


Eric John Mead, 28, 811 N. Division St., was charged 10:21 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of West Jefferson Street with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and public intoxication.

According to a Creston Police report, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Jefferson Street to investigate a report of an accident. Upon arrival, an officer spoke with Mead, who was standing outside of a vehicle involved in the accident. Mead was intoxicated and admitted to drinking alcohol. Mead's speech was slurred and his balance unsteady. Mead was asked numerous times if he wanted to submit a breath test and he refused to answer. During a search of of Mead's clothing, an officer found a marijuana pipe with residue inside Mead's coat pocket, which mead admitted he owned. After Mead was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center, the jailer advised officers he found an additional plastic bag containing what appeared to be marijuana in Mead's pant pocket.

Mead was released on promise to appear.


Robert Owen Hiatt, 35, 1003 S. Sumner St., Apt. 14, was charged 11:11 p.m. Friday at his residence for domestic abuse assault.

According to a Creston Police report, officers were dispatched to Hiatt's residence to investigate a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, a female victim told officers Hiatt, her boyfriend, had assaulted her. The victim stated Hiatt got into a verbal confrontation with her and shoved her, knocking her to the floor. The victim showed a mobile phone video of the assault to officers, which confirmed she had been assaulted.

Hiatt was released on $300 bond.


Steve Daniel Nieves, 29, 811 N. Division St., was charged 11:54 p.m. Friday with public intoxication in the 700 block of West Jefferson.

According to a Creston Police report, officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Jefferson Street for a vehicle that had hit a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, two individuals walked down the street to the squad car. One of the individuals, identified as Nieves, had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, bloodshot and water eyes and slurred speech. Nieves explained he and the other male were occupants in the vehicle when it struck the parked vehicle. Nieves admitted to the officer he consumed "two shots and three beers." An officer requested a sample of Nieves' breath through Data Master, but Nieves declined.

Nieves was released on $300 bond.


Amanda Marie Barnes, 510 S. Walnut St., reported a purse, camera, food card, sunglasses and Social Security card were taken from a vehicle parked at McDonald's, 510 S. Walnut St., between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday.
