Willard “Willie” Simpson, 71, of Des Moines, died Feb. 22, 2013, at Taylor House Hospice.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at McLaren’s Chapel in West Des Moines. Burial will be in Moon Cemetery in Macksburg. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Willard Dale Simpson, son of Dale and Beulah Simpson, was born May 13, 1941.

For most of his childhood, Willie lived in the Orient and Macksburg area and went to school at Macksburg and Greenfield.

On Nov. 29, 1959, Willie married Roberta Briley in Creston.

Willie did some farming and became a plumber and owned his own plumbing business.

He was divorced in 1976 and moved to Des Moines.

Willie divorced and remarried Katie Hayes.

Willie moved to Meadows Mobile Home Park and was employed there for 25 years.

Willie is survived by his wife Katie; daughter Tonia Montoya of Creston; son Scott (Joann) Simpson of Bartlesville, Okla.; stepchildren, Linda Ward and James (Becky) Hayes, all of Kansas City; sister Catherine (Joe) Drake of Winterset; brother Dick (Terri) Simpson of Mount Ayr; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Willie was preceded in death by his parents; son Bryan; and sisters, Jean Bailey and Wanda Scott.
