Arson case

Roan, 29, and Lacey Dalton, 27, were charged Feb. 15 after law enforcement discovered a large, active methamphetamine lab inside their residence, 411 W. Kansas St. Both Roan and Dalton were charged on Union County warrants with conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of precursors. The house has been registered to Adam Roan since 2009.

Afton Police Chief John Coulter said Roan and Dalton were in custody at the time of the house fire, which started five days later on Feb. 20.

Afton Fire Chief Jim Krantz said the fire caused a "substantial amount of fire, smoke, water and structural damage" to the house. The investigation is continuing to find out who may have caused the fire.

Roan and Dalton's home-based meth lab required the Afton Fire Department and a meth lab cleanup team from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in St. Louis to be called. Creston Police Department, Afton Police Department, Union County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement assisted in the search.

Roan was also charged on two Union County warrants for child endangerment for allowing his children, ages 4 and 11, to be present where methamphetamine was being manufactured, creating substantial risk to their physical, mental, and emotional health or safety.
