SWCC softball coach featured in national publication
Southwestern Community College Head Softball Coach Lindsay Stumpff was featured in the February 2013 edition of Fastpitch Delivery, a publication from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The article, titled “Faced With a Storm’s Fury, SWCC’s Stumpff Helps Her Team Move On,” focused on the Spartans’ winning 2012 softball season despite being faced with a mid-season tornado hitting the college’s campus.
In the article, Stumpff explained the strategy she took to help her student-athletes stay focused while pulling together to keep their season on track following the April 14, 2012, Creston tornado. The tornado caused extensive damage on the college’s campus and the girls were uprooted from their homes in SWCC student housing and moved to a local hotel for the remainder of the school year.
In an excerpt taken from the article, Stumpff explained the cohesiveness and dedication of her team, “The strong will and the fight they possessed through everything was unbelievable. They could have folded and said we’ve had a great season up until now, but we can’t handle this anymore. They didn’t. That first week back when we started playing again was a struggle, because their minds were somewhere else, which is logical. After that week, they were ready to go again.”
