Creston senior Brianna Maitlen earned honorable mention all-conference honors in the Hawkeye 10 Conference as announced this week.

Maitlen was the lone representative for a Creston team that finished 6-17 overall and 3-10 for eighth place in the conference.

“It’s a good conference, a lot of good players,” Creston head coach Larry McNutt said. “Bri had a good year this year as a senior. Fortunately, she made it.”

Maitlen, a 5-8 senior post player, used her quickness and footwork in the post against much bigger opposing post players.

She also often drew the toughest defensive assignment in the post.

Maitlen finished tied for second on the team in scoring at 7.4 points per game. She also grabbed 6.9 rebounds per game to finish second for the Panthers.

She led the team with 46 steals and six blocked shots, and also finished the year with 19 assists.

“She’s a good athletic kid, and she stepped up this year and played well inside despite being a lot smaller than most of the post players she was up against,” McNutt said. “She played pretty well against some of the best post players in the Hawkeye 10.”
