Phyllis Thomas Onalaska, Wis.

Phyllis JoAnne (Terry) Thomas, 77, of Onalaska, Wisconsin passed away peacefully at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center surrounded by family on Monday, March 4, 2013.

She was born on July 1, 1935 in Empire, Michigan, the daughter of Frank and Carrie (Chilson) Terry.

She grew up in the Traverse City, Michigan area and raised her family in Bendon, Michigan.

In 1981, she married Robert Thomas and moved to East Jordan, Michigan and in 2009 moved to Onalaska, Wisconsin to live with her daughter. She resided at Marinuka Manor in Galesville for the past two years.

Phyllis attended Central High School in Traverse City.

Phyllis was a strong, independent women, raising four children and two nephews for the most part on her own. She was proud of her family and encouraged education. She worked many years assisting the elderly and disabled in their homes. She enjoyed quilting and embroidery, playing pinochle and bingo, fishing, camping, canoeing, beautiful sunsets, and country music.

Phyllis is survived by four children, Francis “Bud” (Sharon) Redding of Traverse City, MI., Debra (Jim) Hymbaugh and Thomas (Denise) Redding both of Creston, IA., and JoAnne (John) Courtade of Onalaska, WI.; one step-daughter, Irene (Rick) Post; a nephew, Shaun (Liz) Terry, whom she raised as a son; eight grandchildren, Francis and Brock Redding, Tena Snethen, TJ, Justin, and Tim Redding, Ryan (Rissa) Courtade, and Mary (Mike) Roberge; several step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, Brandon, Brooklyn, Kaili, Johnathan, Kinsleigh, Wyatt, and Ephram; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; two brothers, Frank and John; a sister, Alice; grandson, James; and nephew, John Terry, whom she raised as a son.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Dickinson Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 401 Main Street, Onalaska. Tony Tomashek will officiate and burial will be in Interlochen, MI. at a later date. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Christian Record Services, 4444 S. 52nd Street, Lincoln, NE. 68516-1302 or Challenge Mountain Handicap Ski and Recreation Area, 2205 Spring Brook Road, Wallon Lake, MI. 49796.
