Richard Murdock Corning

Richard “Dick” Murdock, 82, of Corning died March 4, 2013, at Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Pearson Family Funeral Service, 701 Seventh St., Corning. The Rev. Richard Queener will officiate. Interment with military honors conducted by OURCQ Post No. 117 will be in Oakland Cemetery in Quincy. Open visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday with family present 6 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Richard “Dick” Lee Murdock, son of Esther Irene (Stillinger) and Kenneth Earl Murdock, was born Jan. 10, 1931, in Mills County.

Dick attended rural schools in Adams and Taylor counties and graduated from Corning High School in 1950.

After high school, Dick drove a school bus until his enlistment into the U.S. Navy in 1950 during the Korean War Conflict. Dick was honorably discharged on Oct. 27, 1954, from his duties as a boilerman petty officer after serving for three years in the Mediterranean and Antarctic. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Navy Occupation Service Medal.

Dick returned to Adams County after his service, and on Nov. 14, 1954, married Kathleen Richie.

For the next two years Dick and Kathleen farmed his father’s farm in Prescott Township until they purchased their own farm in 1956, where they lived more than 50 years, farming and raising livestock.

Dick is survived by his wife Kathleen Murdock of Corning; daughters, Teresa (husband Dan) Libby of Creston and Annette Mitchell of Carroll; grandsons, Alex, Josh, Adam and James; brother Robert (wife Laurie) Murdock of Moline, Ill.; sister-in-law Phyllis Murdock of Independence; brother-in-law Bob Greening of Chicago, Ill.; life-long friend Leland Inman of Corning; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Randall and Roger; sister Carolyn Greening and infant sister Alice Ann.
