Dale Weed Creston

Dale Weed, 92, of Creston died March 7, 2013, at Greater Regional Hospice Home.

Services will be 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at Powers Funeral Home, junction of highways 34 and 25. The Rev. Jim Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at a later date. Flag presentation will be by Theodore J. Martens Creston VFW Post No. 1797. Open visitation will be 2 to 7 p.m. Monday with family present 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Greater Regional Hospice Home. Online condolences may be left at www.powersfh.com.

Everett Dale Weed, son of Laura Gertrude (Scott) and Lonnie Leotice Weed, was born July 6, 1920, in Hebron.

Dale graduated from Orient High School in 1938.

On May 19, 1939, Dale married Phyllis Darlene Brown in Maryville, Mo. They later divorced.

Dale served in U.S. Navy from May 30, 1944, until his honorable discharge March 2, 1946. While in the service, he was part of the color guard for boot camp, along with his three brothers.

Dale worked for Chicago Burlington and Quincy Railroad.

On Jan. 3, 1949, Dale married Ruth LaVonne Wilson in Kansas City, Mo. They lived in Orient for a short time in 1949, then Creston since 1952.

Dale transferred to brakeman and then to conductor with the railroad.

After retiring in 1982, Dale did fencing and delivering for Office Machines.

Dale was a member of Creston VFW, NARVRE (National Association of Retired and Veteran Railroad Employees) and past president of United Transportation Union.

Dale is survived by his wife Ruth Weed of Creston; son Larry Weed of Orient; daughters, Janice Weed of Creston, Kae (husband Jim) Carlson of Omaha, Neb., Cathie (husband Alan) Hudson of Creston, Debera (husband Ron) Gordon of Creston and Tina (husband Tonie) Thaden of Liberty, Mo.; brothers, Gerald (wife Charlotte) Weed of Littleton, Colo., and George (wife Rosemary) Weed of Leawood, Kan.; sisters, Wanda (husband Donald) Loseke of St. Edward, Neb., Waneta Linger of Glendale, Ariz., and Ruth Cummins of Orient; brothers-in-law, Edd Teague and Richard Hayes; 23 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter Sheila Gordon; grandsons, Michael Weed and Stephen and Ronald Weed at birth; brothers, Franklin, Lonnie Jr., Marven and Donald; and sisters, Evelyn Teague and Flora Hayes.
