From Vicki Sickels
Four years ago this week, John Sickels and Jamie Christensen were convicted of the crime of second-degree sexual assault. They have been incarcerated since March 12, 2009. The woman who was working at Crestmoor Golf Club on the night of the incident and accused them of this crime filed a lawsuit with the city of Creston. The city settled with her for an undisclosed sum, and she has since moved out of town.
Many people in Creston are aware that the justice system has failed miserably by allowing her to get away with this and locking up two men who served their community for over 15 years without a blemish on either of their records. Many have expressed a desire to show their support. The time has come to ask those who would like to stand up for John and Jamie in a significant way to take action. We have created a petition asking the state to release John and Jamie and grant them a fair trial. If you support this recommendation and would like to sign the petition, you can do so at signon.org/sign/free-john-and-jamie/. To sign a paper copy, please stop by Globe Cash Advance on North Elm Street. (To get more information about the case, visit www.4justicenow.com).
On March 21st at 3 p.m., we are holding an event on the first floor of the State Capitol in Des Moines to raise awareness about John and Jamie’s case and let legislators know that citizen’s would like justice reform to be a priority in Iowa. At 4 p.m., we will hold a press conference on the west steps of the Capitol and present our petition to the governor’s office. For anyone who has been outraged by this case and wants to rally in support of John and Jamie, now is the time to stand together! Four years is four years too long! Please join us with signatures, prayers and a show of support at the Capitol on March 21st.
