Keitha J. King, 91, of Afton died March 8, 2013, at Afton Care Center.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at Powers Funeral Home, 612 N. Dodge St., Afton. The Rev. Joel Sutton will officiate. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Visitation with family present will be 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to Afton United Methodist Church or Creston Library Fund. Keitha Jean (Applegate) King, daughter of Veda Cordelia (Patrick) and Harry William Applegate, was born July 1, 1921, in Union County.
She was educated at Dodge No. 3 Country School of Afton and graduated from Creston High School in 1937.
On Sept. 11, 1941, Keitha married Rex Leroy King in Afton.
They lived on a farm in Dodge Township, where Keitha was a homemaker and helped farm until 1967, when they moved into Afton.
Keitha co-owned and operated Afton Variety Store for several years. She also worked for Kelly’s Flowers and served as a 4-H leader.
Keitha was a member of Dodge Center Methodist Church, then transferred to Afton United Methodist Church. She also had been active with P.E.O., Order of the Eastern Star and Dodge Center and Afton Methodist Church Ladies Circle.
Keitha is survived by her daughter Ellyn Anne King of Southlake, Texas; son Richard Charles King (significant other Elaine Clift) of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; grandchildren, David (wife Alicia) Winn, Darin (wife Michele) Winn, Dianne (husband Ken) Harden, Raquel (husband Bill) Benson and Raelynn King-Barnhart; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Keitha was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2007; brother Dean Applegate and brother-in-law Gene (wife Francine) King.
