Corey Lee Blackmore, 25, of Ottumwa, was charged on a Union County warrant for first-offense OWI.

According to a Union County Sheriff’s report, 12:23 a.m. March 14 Blackmore was involved in a single-vehicle rollover accident on U.S. Highway 34 near mile marker 82. Upon the deputy’s arrival, Blackmore was out of the vehicle and standing on the shoulder. The deputy asked how Blackmore was doing and he said, “Not good.” Blackmore was unsteady on his feet and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. The deputy asked him how much he had to drink and he said, “Too much.”

The ambulance arrived and medics took him on board. A medic adviced the deputy that Blackmore was refusing medical treatment and asked if the deputy could talk to him. When the deputy got in the ambulance he could smell alcohol coming from Blackmore. Blackmore was upset, didn’t want treatment and said to let him die. He said he was going to kill himself anyway. Blackmore was advised he would have to go to the hospital and get checked out.

After the deputy arrived at the hospital, Blackmore consented to a preliminary breath test that resulted in a BAC of .216. Blackmore was read the implied consent advisory and he refused to submit to a withdrawal of a body specimen.

Blackmore was released from the Union County jail on $1,000 bond.
