Postponed

The Southwestern Community College softball doubleheader scheduled against Iowa Central here Wednesday has been postponed to 2 p.m. Thursday because of weather and field conditions.

The Spartans also host Kirkwood at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Summer ball

Registration is under way for the Creston Baseball/Softball Inc. leagues this summer.

Registration forms are available at local schools or by calling Mike Linch, 782-5482, or Dave Wynn, 202-7033. Fee is $35 per child, which includes a shirt and cap/visor.

Registration forms and fees must be turned in by April 5.

Leagues will be formed for youths in second through eighth grade in baseball and second through ninth grade in softball. Softball leagues will wear black pants. All boys are expected to provide their own gray baseball pants.

Volunteer coaches and umpires are needed at all levels. There is a section on the form to indicate availability.

Spring basketball

A girls spring basketall league on four Tuesday nights in April will be held for girls in third-eighth grades.

Creston coach Larry McNutt said the league will consist of 30 minutes of player development in fundamentals and 60 minutes of team play. Each player will be put on a team and equal playing time for all players as much as possible.

Cost is $15 per player with checks payable to Creston Basketball. Each participant will receive a spring league T-shirt.

The schedule is 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on April 2, April 9, April 23 and April 30.
